Congratulations and kudos to St. John the
Apostle Catholic School! We received notification on January 16 that
we are a finalist for the prestigious 2008 No Child Left Behind---Blue
Ribbon Schools Program. St. John School is one of 50 national private
schools nominated by the Council for American Private Education (CAPE)
and sent to the U. S. Department of Education for final review and
consideration. Each year, CAPE may nominate 50 private schools from
all those who apply, and the state public school offices nominate
numerous public schools for this award. Annually 50 private schools
and approximately 240 public schools receive the Blue Ribbon Schools
of Excellence Award. U.S. Education Secretary Spellings will
announce the 2008 Blue Ribbon Schools in September 2008. To qualify
for Blue Ribbon Schools, a school must be an exemplary school that
scores in the top 10% of its state based on its exiting class’s
standardized test scores or an exemplary school that shows
dramatically improving student performance with at least 40% of its
students from disadvantaged backgrounds. St. John School qualified as
an exemplary school that scored in the top 10%. We are eagerly
awaiting Secretary Spelling’s announcement next fall, and we
appreciate all the wonderful support from faculty, staff, students,
parents, parish, and the entire St. John community.
God bless you,
Dr. Cindy Cummins
